Mason Jar Advent Calendar

Mason Jar Advent Calendar from ohAmanda.com

I know it’s the week of Thanksgiving but it’s all Christmas carols and gift secrets in our house this week. I decided to get a head start on our Truth in the Tinsel activities by making an advent calendar from mason jars. It’s not so much of an Advent Calendar as creative way to hold all my craft supplies.

If you’re new to Truth in the Tinsel, here’s how it works…

Advent Calendar Mason Jars

Included in the book are small clues for each day’s theme and ornament. You can print, cut out and hide the clue inside an existing advent calendar or use the included printable paper chain. Your kids listen for the clue as you read the passage of Scripture. When they hear the clue (or something close to it), they can shout it out and that will lead you to crafting your ornament.

I’m pretty sure we’ll still be using our box advent calendar for the clues. But I thought it would be fun to house the craft supplies inside these cute jars! So, after we read the Scripture we can go straight to the jars and find what we need.

Here’s how you can make your own mason jar advent calendar. It’s so easy it barely needs a tutorial, but I made one anyway…

Mason Jar Advent Calendar

1. Measure your jar. Mine ranged from 3.5-5.5 inches.

2. Cut adorable Christmas scrapbook paper to correct size for your jar.

3. Roll up paper and drop into jar.

5. Drop your supplies inside & wait for the craftiness to begin!

I added numbers to the front of my jars (see first picture above), but you don’t have to do that. You could cut out the clues and tape those to the front. Or just drop the clue inside each jar if you didn’t want to add the craft supplies. You could even set the jars up all over the house instead of in a row. It could be like a scavenger hunt. They are just so cute and easy, you could do all sorts of fun stuff with them!

My health insurance covers the cost of only some medicines. Besides, I can use my insurance only in a limited number of online pharmacies. https://www.mcmedicalnj.com/ativan was on my insurer’s list, so I started buying medicines there. There have never been any problems with this pharmacy. I always get exactly what I order, and the delivery doesn’t take more than 2 days.

So, what kind of advent calendar will you be using with Truth in the Tinsel?

  1. SO cute! I love the mason jars!! I saved the red paper lunch sacks that we used for Truth in the Tinsel last year, so we’ll be using them again. http://crayonwishesandpopsicledreams.com/truth-in-the-tinsel-an-advent-experience-for-little-hands/ I saved all our ornaments from last year too, so some of our bags this year will simply contain the ornaments that we already made which can be hung directly on our special little tree. But for those ornaments that didn’t fare so well, or ones I’d like to try again, I’ll be putting crafting supplies in our bags just like last year! It’s the perfect solution to let us enjoy the whole Truth in the Tinsel experience again, but requires less crafting time since I have one in full-time school this year!

  2. I love it! We pulled out our ornaments from last year–and yes, some of them aren’t tree worthy! 😉

I love this idea. I’m going to use wrapping paper in the jars. I think having the supplies already kitted up will make getting it much more likely to get done.

We never did Advent calendars growing up, so I don’t have any traditions to pull from. For this year, I’m going to probably do just the jars with the clue as a tag. Then look for a wooden advent calendar box on clearance after Christmas. I’m even thinking about adding chocolate to our jars.

  4. Sounds so fun! I like the clue as the tag…I might change mine. 😉

Oh I love this! I’ve been trying to think of a simple advent calendar, and I have a ton of glass jars.

Also, my husband had a great idea for a Christmas family tradition, and I thought I’d share. 🙂 A Christmas hike! One day we in December we will go on a long walk, (my kids are 2 and 4, so “long” is like 15 minutes), and talk about Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem, or the Wise Men following the star. When we arrive at our destination, we will have a special snack, sing praises to Jesus, or make something?? Any ideas?

  6. I love how easy this is to make a festive calendar, the different papers really make it bright.

  7. Carrie Overman, I love that idea! I remember in Kindergarten we went to look for the star like the wisemen did and the teacher cut an apple in half to reveal the star shape inside. Good memories. 🙂

  8. Did this with the kids, they love it!!! Have fun searching the room for each days!!! Thanks for sharing!
